2007 Clos de Ste Anne Pinot Noir

2007 Clos de Ste Anne Pinot Noir

"Single-vineyard red from Millton, hill-grown in Gisborne.  Richly varietal, with strawberry and spice flavours, showing excellent depth and complexity, ripe, supple tannins and a fragrant, welcoming bouquet.   Certified organic." 4 Stars - Michael Cooper, Winestate March 2009©

Clos de Ste. Anne is a single vineyard situated on steep northeast facing slopes in the foothills of Poverty Bay.  The 2007 Pinot Noir comes from older plantings off the original Naboth’s Vineyard 1 Kings Ch. 21 as well as a new collection of own-rooted, modern clones from a planting further along the slope in a section we call “La Cote”.  All vineyards are dry farmed and cultivated bio-dynamically since 1989. "I look to the old world for inspiration with Pinot Noir. I don’t want a big fruit bomb nor a dark wine with blocky oak tannin. I want delicacy and a subtle memory that is balanced with fine aromatic foods of flavour." James Millton.

The hand harvested and sorted fruit was chilled, de-stemmed and fermented in small wooden cuves made from of French Oak. Aged in barriques.
Delicately ruby-hued, soft aromas of violets with subtle notes of forest floor. The complexities unfold with the intensity of the palate, rich cherries; red berries simmered with orange zest. Juicy & sumptuous yet refined & elegant, a vibrant palate seamed with firm tannins that beg for ageing. Fined with free-range egg whites from estate hens.
